Make a Mobile-Friendly Website

Most business owners realize how important their websites are, but do they realize how important it is that their website looks good on all devices? Phones, tablets and desktop computers are all used to access the Internet. Your design has to look good on all devices.

Starting in 2014, desktops were no longer the most popular way to go online; Mobile took first place, which means that businesses need to create their website design for mobile before anything else.

Even Google prefers sites that are optimized for mobile. This means your business can show up higher on the results of a Google search if your site is optimized for mobile. In April of 2016, Google changed their algorithm so websites that work well on mobile have precedence over those that do not. If your site is not optimized for a mobile screen, you are not getting as many viewers as you could.

However, do not go create a separate website for your mobile-friendly pages and your desktop-friendly pages. Duplicate content also hurts your site on Google searches. You should create one website with responsive design, which means that the page will automatically detect the device of the user on your website and change the size and orientation to fit the appropriate screen. There are resources online, such as Wix and Squarespace, that will create a website with responsive design for you. All you have to do is enter your information into a template.

Your font should be no smaller than 14 points. Call to Action buttons, such as a Shop Now button, also need to be big so that people can easily tap them with their thumb.

Mobile devices now require higher resolution photos than desktops. Make sure that your images are extremely high quality so that they look good on both.

Unresponsive design turns potential customers away. Optimize your site for mobile to optimize your business potential.
