Most Affordable Electric Vehicles

In the past, electric cars were expensive and had a limited driving range. These days, they’re more affordable and can go much farther on one charge.

More people are switching to environmentally-friendly driving solutions. Here are some affordable electric vehicles on the market.

1. Ford Focus Electric

Priced from $29,200, the Ford Focus Electric is the most affordable electric vehicle on the market, making sustainable cars attainable to almost everyone.

The electric version of the Ford Focus is very similar to its gas-fueled counterpart. There’s nothing that leads the driver to believe they’re inside an electric car, except for the small “electric” badge. The Ford Focus Electric follows the traditional Focus design and provides a 115-mile range per charge.

2. Nissan Leaf

Nissan has been one of the early entries in the electric vehicle industry. The latest version of the Leaf comes with a larger battery and a more powerful engine. The Leaf can run 226 miles on a single charge, giving its drivers the freedom to travel longer distances.

Priced from $29,900, the Leaf is one of the most affordable vehicles out there.

The latest version of the Leaf comes with some nice upgrades, especially in technology. Both the audio and navigation systems are better, and so is smartphone integration, which now supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

3. Volkswagen E-Golf

Are you a fan of the German car maker’s popular Golf model? If so, hurry to get the electric version. Soon, Volkswagen will stop selling the E-Golf in the United States.

The Volkswagen E-Golf starts at $31,300 and has a 125-mile range per charge, which is significantly lower than its competitors. On the upside, the electric version of the Golf looks and feels more like a gas-fueled car, and comes with plenty of storage space.

4. Kia Soul EV

The electric version of the Kia Soul has been around since 2014, making it one of the earliest economy models on the market. It’s priced from $33,950 and the battery has a range of 125 miles per charge, which is toward the low end versus the competition.

Even with a lower range, the Soul EV is a good alternative for daily city commutes, or driving around with your family on the weekend. The car has enough room for bigger families and is essentially a small SUV.

5. Tesla Model 3

A lot has changed since the Tesla Roadster entered the scene in 2008 (at a pricey $112,000). The Roadster was the most expensive electric vehicle, and the majority of electric cars were out of reach for most Americans.

Now Tesla has added a more affordable model to its line of electric vehicles. The Tesla Model 3 is priced from $35,000 and can drive up to 220 miles per charge.

The Model 3 comes with the same bells and whistles of the higher-end Teslas, such as touchscreens and software upgrades to tune up the vehicle. Unlike the S and X model, which feature free charging on Tesla’s Supercharger network, Tesla Model 3 owners will pay to use these charging stations.

6. Chevrolet Bolt EV

Priced from $36,060, the Chevrolet Bolt EV makes driving a fun experience and has the longest driving range of the more affordable electric vehicles - 259 miles per charge.

The Bolt EV comes with an affordable fast-charging option as well as other features that make up for a less luxurious interior.

7. Hyundai Kona Electric

Last on our list of affordable electric vehicles is the Hyundai Kona Electric. This South Korean crossover entered the market with a range of 258 miles per charge. While slightly pricier than other models, from $36,400, the Hyundai Kona is still an affordable option for an electric car.

The Kona comes with many of the same features and interior found in its gas-fueled counterpart. It’s comfortable and fun to drive, especially if you need a more spacious car.

If you’re looking for your next car to be easy on both your budget and the environment, these are some of the most affordable electric vehicles on the market.
